Inspiration

I talk about inspiration a lot. I think that as an artist it is esential to have a constant supply. Our muses can only do so much. I know I can only drink a few beers before I can’t write. When I get stuck and need a little inspiration I borrow from the greats.

Today I got visit Monterey. You can’t go to Monterey and not think about John Steinbeck. In fact, the city makes it impossible to forget. They have banners all over Cannery Row with the likeness of of Steinbeck’s chracters from his masterpiece of the same name. Regardless, there is something special about tromping the same grounds as Steinbeck himself. I know it no longers fits the slew of adjectives Steinbeck throws at the place, but you can feel his spirit anywhere you go. At least I can. Maybe it’s just because I’m a fan. Fan or not, it’s easy to see how anybody can be inspired by the place. It cleanses the soul and clears the mind. It leaves the creative corners of your clean mind fertile, ready to propagate fresh ideas. Everyone needs such a place. What’s your’s?
