San Francisco Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival (SFBOT)

sfbotIf there was a song titled “A Day Late and a Dollar Short,” it would the theme song of my life. At least it feels that way sometimes. I should have made this post before, but I was teaching at work all last week and it really saps the energy out of you. I am sorry but, if this is the first you are hearing of it, you have missed the first couple days of theĀ  San Francisco Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival (SFBOT). SFBOT gives you the opportunity to see just how much Bluegrass you can cram into nine days. Every night of the week there is Bluegrass music at numerous venues around the bay. Combine that with the California Bluegrass Associations Winter Music Camp and workshops at the Swedish American Music Hall in SF on Saturday, and you have more music that you can shake a banjo at. I don’t yet know what shows I am going to, but rest assured I will make at least a couple. I’ll make sure to share the wealth.

If you have never experienced Bluegrass music before now is the time to get out of the house and get to one of these great venues. Bluegrass has a way of getting into you, now matter what type of music you like. Most of my favorite Bluegrass bands are playing this week: Black Crown Stringband, 49 Special, Alhambra Valley Band and Dalton Mountain Gang. I wish that I could catch them all, but alas, twenty fours just isn’t enough some times. Not to mention it would require me to be in two places at one time.

Ah well, what can one do. If anybody makes to any shows, let me know. I’d love to let you post a piece about them.
