Any good writer will tell you that they readers as well. Seeing as how this is the only way to know what good writing is, it makes sense. Most of us begin our fictional writing endeavors with the short story. I know I have respectable stack in a desk draw somewhere. The form is often looked down upon these days, thought to be the domain of anxiety ridden teenagers and thirty-somethings that still in their parents basement and have a regular D&D night.
Regardless on the downward glances they may receive, the short story is a great way to stretch your wings. They are far more attainable that a novel and a great way to build your skills. Contest abound for short stories and the younger stunted version, flash fiction. Looking for avenues to get my misguided midget fiction to the masses I have stumbled across Long Story Short. An ezine that seems to revel in both of these abbreviated form of fiction. The have a great contest listing and section which features various forms of short stories that have been submitted by readers. Give the a once over. I know I usually find a couple enjoyable pieces.
