The Oregon Trail is an unforgettable part of my childhood. Probably 90% of the people I meet experienced the loss Shithead to smallpox. Apparently, that wide spread influence is rearing it’s diphtheria infected head to a new generation. In the past week or so, I have seen a few Oregon Trail related posts out there. Boing Boing reported on Matt Marchini’s geeky mashup concept ,The Alderan Trail, and Laughing Squid uncovered two Trail related gems. Here is their screen shot of Digg’s homage to what was my first experience unreliable transportation. They also uncovered the ultimate geek out, the Oregon Trail movie. I can’t believe it. I wonder if the characters will have names that need to be hidden from the teacher.
Anybody else remember the Oregon Trail?
Your Uncle Robert and I had competitions to see who could score the highest at Oregon Trail. We had a later version than the one pictured, and learned all about how trading and a small amount of money would equal big points. The girls still make fun of us for making a competition out of one of their games. In fact, we found our old game and did it again a couple of years ago.
